Full of crap

Graffiti is a crime you egg scrambling fuckface

Okay, I just wanna say something and maybe the two and a half people who actually ever visit this thing will pay attention (although those 2 and a half probably don't need to).

Okay. Right. Here. I keep seeing these little images of aerosol cans or something similar, the picture dark (like your soul), with the text: "Art is not a crime!" Right. Okay. Here: Art is a subjective thing, ranging (depending on the critic) from a Van Gogh painting of some flowers, to a man throwing his own feces on the wall of his Mother's bedroom. So art is different things to different people. So, ultimately, art isn't shit (or 'art is everything', if you want to be all profound about it). Okay, so that's that sorted.

Now. 'Crime', is, by all laws and societies, NOT subjective. Crime is a black and white thing. It is set in writing by the governments who rule/serve the people. Things that are against the laws of certain societies are called 'Crimes', and the purveryors of these things are called 'Criminals'. This isn't up to self esteem starved, moody adolescents (or anyone else, for that matter, save the gaggle of philandering lunatics who chop and change these laws) to debate. Whether or not you agree with the laws your soceity have 'imposed' upon you to protect/repress you, that does not change the FACT that writing on property that does not belong to you is a CRIME. Fun fact.

Somehow many seem to believe that 'Art' and 'Crime' are two exclusive terms, at war with one other and in some way polar opposites. Nuh-uh. Here's another fun fact people: you can be a 'Criminal' and an 'Artist'...AT THE SAME TIME! Wowsers. Cool, huh? Membership of one club does not prevent entry into the other. Oh no.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for bombing, but whether or not the fact that certain activities should be crimes and others not is irrelevant as far as those who impose the laws are concerned. And the Art not crime/Crime not art game is played by more than just ratty little 'taggers' - Michael McDowell for example, 'These are not artists, they are vandals'. But lets get our side of the story straight before worrying about theirs, ok?

So, next time you whip out that fat capped 600er and shout (aloud or in your head) at dissaproving glances and stares that 'ART IZ NOT A KRRIME!', think for a second...and shut the fuck up. Finish whatever illegally placed graff tag bomb you happen to be doing as quicky as you can and get the fuck out of wherever the fuck you are before a cop comes along and you have to explain to him how your defacing of public property is, in fact, Art, and 'Not against the law at all officer...'

Who Cares?

Hey, if any of you have better fliks of either of these pieces, leave a comment. Maybe one of you kids who have my shit all over their bebos (that sounds wrong), you fucking owe me...
